Network: the difference that matters most

Lifeline plans are free either way, so the deciding factor is usually whose signal reaches your home. Assurance Wireless runs on T-Mobile; TruConnect runs on T-Mobile. Because both ride the same network, coverage at your address will be effectively identical — decide on device choice and customer service instead.

Which should you apply to?

Choose Assurance Wireless if: Owned and operated by T-Mobile rather than an MVNO reseller; Strong metro and suburban coverage; Free smartphone included with enrollment in most states.

Choose TruConnect if: Registered for both mobile and home internet service in several states; Online enrollment flow is one of the more straightforward ones; Wide multilingual support.

Note that you can only hold one Lifeline benefit at a time, so this is a real choice rather than something to hedge. You can switch providers later, but you cannot run both at once.
