Wireline footprint: the difference that matters most

Both are home-service providers, so the deciding factor is not signal but plant: whether the company already has cable or fiber running to your street. Frontier Communications operates Frontier wireline and fiber; CenturyLink operates CenturyLink wireline. These footprints were carved up decades ago and rarely overlap on the same street, so in practice most addresses have one of them available, not a choice between them.
